Where will my bodywork session take place?
Optimal Health Massage is located within Sports Rehabilitation Center Sandy Springs at 5290 Roswell Rd NE, Suite A190, Atlanta, GA 30342. Your bodywork session will take place in a warm, comfortable room. Soft music may be played to help you relax..
What should I expect after my session?
Most clients feel lighter, looser, and calmer the same day. It’s also normal to feel sleepy, thirsty, or a bit tender as your nervous system and tissues integrate the work.
Is soreness normal after massage?
Yes. Mild-to-moderate soreness can happen—especially after deeper work or long-held tension. It typically peaks within 24 hours and improves by 48 hours.
It depends on your goal:
Weekly: acute flare-ups, heavy stress, intense training blocks
Biweekly: restoring tissue quality + nervous system stability
Monthly: maintenance and performance longevity
We’ll make a plan that’s realistic for your life and budget.
What’s “normal” soreness vs. a red flag?
Normal: tenderness like post-workout soreness, improving daily.
Reach out if: sharp pain, worsening symptoms past 48 hours, new numbness/tingling, significant swelling, or bruising that’s extensive.
Why do I feel tired, spacey, or emotional afterward?
Bodywork can shift your system from “go mode” into recovery mode. That downshift can feel like fatigue, fogginess, or emotional release. It’s a sign your body is finally exhaling.
Can I work out after my massage?
Light movement is great. For best results, avoid heavy lifting or intense training the same day (especially after deep tissue or sports-focused work). If you’re in a training block, we’ll plan sessions around it.
Should I stretch after?
Gentle stretching and mobility are fine. Skip aggressive stretching the same day—your tissues are more pliable and easier to overstretch. A walk + easy mobility usually wins.
Heat or ice?
Heat: stiffness, stress tension, general tightness; Ice: hot/inflamed flare-ups or sharp irritation
When in doubt: 10–15 minutes of gentle heat + easy movement.
Why does the same spot keep getting tight again?
Because the “tight spot” is often a compensation. We treat the area, then we address the driver (stress load, posture, breathing mechanics, training volume, hips/shoulders doing extra work).
Does deep tissue have to hurt to work?
No. Effective deep work is precise, not punishing. We aim for therapeutic pressure you can breathe through—so your body accepts change instead of guarding.
What if I’m nervous about touch, sensitive, or ticklish?
You’re not alone. We can start slower, use broader contact, and choose areas that feel safe first. The goal is trust + regulation, not forcing intensity.
What should I wear?
Come as you are. You’ll always be professionally draped. You can undress to your comfort level—full work is still possible without fully undressing. When receiving a Sports massage, it’s advised to wear athletic/casual clothing, as the work provided will be active movement and stretching.
Can I request boundaries or avoid certain areas?
Always. Your comfort guides the session. You can request areas to avoid, pressure preferences, and whether you want quiet or education during the session.
When should I see a medical provider or PT?
If you have progressive numbness/weakness, unexplained swelling, fever, new severe headaches, or pain that doesn’t respond to conservative care. I’m happy to collaborate with your PT/trainer when appropriate.
